Guide to Sporting KC Matches with Kids

0

Experience the hype of a Sporting KC game this season! With an energetic atmosphere and a family friendly stadium, consider taking in a match at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan. Use this guide to help plan your game day experience!

What to Know Before a Sporting KC Match

Bag policy

Sporting KC does have a clear bag policy. Only clear bags measuring 12” x 12” x 6” or smaller are permitted. Medical bags and diaper bags are permitted, after inspection. More information can be found here.

Parking

We like to spend the weekend in KC for Sporting KC matches so this means that parking at our hotel and walking works out great for us! Otherwise, parking can be tricky, and you need to be prepared to walk or wait to take a shuttle. Spots can be reserved in advance, and that may be a smart choice if you have little feet in your crew that will be making the trek to the game. Find more information on where to park and how to purchase a parking spot in advance here.

Tickets

Purchase tickets on the official Sporting KC website. Children (two years of age or younger) are permitted inside Sporting Park without a ticket, but only if they sit in a ticket holder’s lap. To add to the fun, add a single-game experience. Be mindful that these events can sell out quickly, so if you want to add an experience, make sure to purchase in advance.

Mom tip

Make sure to take advantage of the First Game On Us program and claim up to two FREE tickets to a home Sporting KC match of your choice. Give yourself some lead time for this, as it can take a while for Sporting KC to confirm the request and allow you to select your free tickets.

During the Match

Bring headphones

The stadium is very loud so plan to bring hearing protection for your children to make the experience more comfortable. If you forget headphones, no problem! Head over to guest services and you can rent a pair to use for the game.

Children seat location wrist bands

Your crew may obtain a free ID wristband personalized with their seat location. Wristbands are available for all matches and events at both Fan Services kiosks, near Sections 101 and 131.

Food and Drinks

There are a ton of affordable food options at the games that are sure to please any type of eater. We really enjoyed sharing a huge bucket of popcorn chicken and fries – it fed all 5 of us! Keep in mind that outside food and beverages are not allowed inside Children’s Mercy Park. However, families are permitted to bring in one empty soft plastic water bottle up to 20-ounces with no cap, and there are water filling stations throughout the stadium. For some matches, staff will pass out FREE ice pops to kids!

Restrooms

There are five family restrooms that are intended for the use of parents with small children and fans with disabilities. All restrooms have a baby changing stations.

Seating

Thanks to a smaller seat capacity, there’s not a bad seat in the house. The most affordable seats still provide a great view of the players and field. We made sure to grab tickets for the South Stand, which offers a more family friendly environment. Read more about select features and options here.

Strollers

Strollers are only allowed in the main concourse of the stadium, not near the seats. Guest services will gladly check them at any Fan Services kiosk.

Mom Tip

Most important of all is to have fun! If this is your first time visiting the park, head to a Guest Services tent and your crew will receive a First Game pin!
