Manhattan Moms is an online parenting resource and community for families in Manhattan and the surrounding area. Our mission is to connect local moms to resources, information, and each other! We believe in the value of creating deep connections with other moms by sharing in the experience of motherhood and promoting local resources. As a group of moms ourselves, our goal is to build a supportive community and to foster pride in the Little Apple.

Sarah McGinnity

Owner

Sarah is owner of Manhattan Moms and is passionate about encouraging and connecting moms – we weren’t meant to do this alone! She graduated from Kansas State (Go Cats!) in journalism, worked for newspapers and for several marketing departments, and eventually got her master’s in urban administration. Sarah and her husband Shea have four kids – Henry (12), Clark (9), Lucy (7) and Caroline (1). She enjoys reading historical fiction, beating her kids at board games and traveling as much as possible.

I’m just a normal mom who is trying to figure out how to have it all. Married to my best friend Dylan, we have 3 children, 2 senior dogs, 10 fish and a frog. Our children regularly like to do yoga with me and see if I can carry all three of them at the same time while doing squats. I’m originally from Junction City and have lived in New York, Denver, Kansas City and now Manhattan. My Bachelor’s is in Family Studies & Human Services from Kansas State University (go Cats!) and my Master’s is in Mediation and Applied Conflict Studies. I spend my free time trying to plan dates with my husband, writing and aggressively applying eye cream.

My husband and I are both Manhattan natives who are proud to call this place home. We just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. I am a stepmom to two great teenagers – one of whom will graduate high school this Spring! I became an older new mom to our baby girl who was born last fall. We have two big fur babies – Charlie, our 13 yr old lab mix and Mac, our 7 year old pitbull mix. I’m a Registered Nurse, working most of my career in the Emergency Room. I enjoy a good cup of coffee, cooking with my husband, and playing with our daughter.

Melissa and her husband (Tenured Professor at Kstate- Go Wildcats!!) moved to Manhattan Kansas from Florida about 7 years ago. They recently moved to St. George with their 3 boys (ages 6, 4, and 1) her mother in law, brother in law (age 15), 2 dogs, 2 fish, a tortoise, and a whole bunch of chickens! Melissa is a stay at home mama but has a background in child/adolescent social work and teaches night classes at Manhattan Christian College. If she’s not taking her kids to sports practice, after school activities, or play dates, you can catch her cooking, gardening, reading, and finding new fun recipes to try or home decor ideas on Pinterest.

Lana is a recent transplant to Kansas, but has lived in the Midwest her whole life. After growing up in southwest Missouri, she lived in Oklahoma and Nebraska before landing in Manhattan in 2022. Her husband, Mark, is a college professor, so “college towns” will always be their home. And although she has a degree from one of those universities in the state south of us, Lana adapts easily and proudly wears purple now! Lana is a mom to Hannah and Daniel…and Opal, the cat! Lana is a Registered Nurse, but when that pesky pandemic interrupted her job as nursing instructor, she adapted her career to better fit her family and now works occasionally to provide freelance services for nursing education textbooks, and writing study materials and blogs for nursing students. When she’s not shuttling kids to appointments and activities, or refereeing fights between kids, you might find her locked away in her craft room, aimlessly pinning ideas on Pinterest that will never get done, or spending some time behind her camera.

I am a Kansas native and an optometrist by career but my best job is being mother of three to Austin, 10, Adam, 6, and Adley, 1. After finishing optometry school in Houston with my husband, Kyle, we settled in Manhattan and practice optometry at Wainwright Eye Care. I also own MHK Fitness along with my husband.I start each day with a made at home latte and ask our kids each morning what they’re grateful for! I am looking forward to this community group and bringing moms together, MHK is great!

I first came to Manhattan during college where she graduated from Kansas State.  I went back to Indiana after college but I fell in love with the town and always wanted to come back to stay.  In 2018 I moved back with my 2 children (16 and 8) and my fiance. I earned my masters degree in Early Childhood Education and love working with children. In my spare time, I love to go on adventures with my family, anything from finding new places to explore or events going on in Manhattan or nearby towns.
