You can Be a “King”! Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the Manhattan Public Library. Read Be a King by Carole Boston Weatherford, listen to parts of a speech, and talk about what it means. Everyone can create their own design of a button or magnet to share Dr. King’s principles of nonviolence, and to promote kindness, understanding, love and justice. Suggested for ages 3 and up. Program begins at 2 p.m.
StoryWalk Indoors: Be a King (Jan. 20-31)
Try the StoryWalk® Indoors featuring Be a King by Carole Boston Weatherford. The story is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and it encourages readers to “be a king” as we strive to make the world a better place. For this activity, visit the Children’s Room at the library any time. Start at the children’s staff desk to pick up a coloring page, and look for the numbered signs around the Children’s Room. Read pages as you walk around to stations from 1-15 and visit the desk when you are done for a small prize. Available during open library hours.
