Guide to Attending K-State Basketball in Kansas City

Where to Park

Parking near the T-Mobile Center is convenient, but it helps to plan ahead. The KC Live! Garage (located at 151 E. 13th Street – also known as the Yellow Garage) is one of the closest, family-friendly options. It offers easy access to the arena and nearby attractions while protecting your car from any weather. It can, however, be a pain when exiting as the garage tends to be congested. For a more budget-friendly parking option, consider Oak Street Parking Garage (near 12th and Oak – also known as the Red Lot).

AXS ticketing through T-Mobile Center offers pre-paid parking at the aforementioned Yellow Garage and Red Lot, and one additional lot (Magenta) within walking distance. A spot is guaranteed, relinquishing any stress of having to search the surrounding area on the day of the event.

There are also multiple smaller, privately owned lots, surrounding the arena but they have a much smaller capacity than the larger garages. Most accept credit cards, but have some cash on hand as a precaution. In any case, arrive early to secure a spot and avoid the pre-game rush!

Where to Stay

For families wanting to make it an overnight trip, lodging is plentiful. These three locations are favorites because of their proximity to the venue and surrounding attractions.

Loews Kansas City Hotel is just a short walk from the arena. It is a modern hotel that offers spacious rooms and kid-friendly amenities like an indoor pool.

Holiday Inn Express Downtown Kansas City is just a hop, skip and a jump from the T-Mobile Center. Bonus, it serves a complimentary breakfast!

Crown Center Hotels (The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center or Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center) are both located near Union Station and offer easy access to family attractions like LEGOLAND and SEA LIFE Kansas City. Catch the streetcar from outside the hotel and ride it directly to the T-Mobile Center! This lessens the stressors of parking during the event.

Where to Eat

Kansas City is known for its food, and there are plenty of family-friendly restaurants near the arena:

BRGR Kitchen + Bar. Located in the Power & Light District, this spot offers burgers, fries, and a fun kids’ menu.

Jack Stack Barbecue (Freight House Location). A must-try for Kansas City barbecue lovers, it offers a spacious setting and a robust kids’ menu.

The Yard House. Perfect for a casual pre-game meal, it has a variety of dishes to suit picky eaters and adventurous foodies alike. Simply park and walk directly to the game afterward.

Policies Inside the T-Mobile Center

  • Only clear bags are allowed, and they must not exceed 12″x6″x12″. Diaper bags are permitted, but will be inspected.
  • Outside food and beverages are not allowed, but the arena offers a variety of snacks, including kid-approved options like popcorn, pretzels, and nachos.
  • Strollers are allowed but must be checked at Guest Services.
  • Family restrooms are available throughout the arena, making diaper changes and bathroom breaks easier.

Pre-Game Activities

Make a day of it! Kansas City offers plenty of activities to enjoy before tip-off.

  • The Power & Light District is across the street from the T-Mobile Center and often hosts fan festivals with music, games and food during big events.
  • Visit Science City at Union Station and grab a treat at Parisi Coffee. The stunning architecture makes for great family photos! Again, take the street car there and back for ease of transportation.
  • The College Basketball Experience is next door to the entrance of T-Mobile Center and is an obvious choice when attending a game! It’s filled with fun activities, memorabilia and games. Note: current hours are Thursday through Sunday, 10AM to 6PM.
  • Hit up Rally House for any new Wildcat gear you might need, located only a block away from the game.
  • If you still have energy to burn before bedtime, head to Betty Rae’s for a sweet treat in the River Market. It’s open late!

A Big 12 basketball game (or any for that matter) in Kansas City isn’t just a sporting event, it’s a chance to create lasting memories with your family. So pack up your team spirit, grab those tickets, and get ready to yell loud for the Wildcats!
