The Flint Hills Discovery Center is hosting several events in anticipation of the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. The total eclipse will be visible over a small area of North America. In Manhattan, we will experience approximately 85% of the totality.

Make a Solar Eclipse Viewer Workshop (March 30)

On Saturday, March 30, the FHDC and the K-State Physics Department will host two Make It! Workshop sessions at the Discovery Center, from 10 a.m. – noon or 2-4 p.m., to help participants build a unique solar viewer.

The cost is $5 for each adult and child pair, which includes all tools, supplies, and materials needed. K-State Physics will teach participants how to use the solar viewer and explain why it works to see the eclipse safely. Pre-registration is required by Friday, March 29 at 5 p.m. and spots are limited. Each adult and child pair should register for either the 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. session.
